Young adult novels are no longer my life’s work, and I was looking forward to putting the genre behind me entirely. However, once in a rare while a YA title will generate such buzz that I reach for it anyway. My rule for myself with YA books is that for me to feature it, it has to be strong enough to stand on its own with adults as well.  This year’s best YA novel is a slam-dunk:
